I am a registered social worker who has worked in the not for profit social service sector since 1996 with a diploma of Social Work from Mount Royal University and a graduate in 2015 with a Masters of Leadership from Royal Roads University. I have often referred to my social work journey as one that is a blend of experience and education. My social work career has allowed me opportunities in Women’s Shelters, Hull Child and Family Services, and for the last 16 years working with and leading programs to support vulnerable children, youth, and families who are facing challenges with attachment, family cohesion and mental health. Much of my career has been integrating and utilizing evidence based models that support the development of early childhood, youth and family wellness and resiliency
I began my career as a social worker in 1993 with a Bachelor of Social Work from University of Calgary, and will complete my Masters in Social Work from Dalhousie in April 2020. I also have a Business Administration diploma and Addictions Studies certificate. Over the years, I have provided crisis and counselling support to youth and adults, couples, families and groups. I have worked in domestic and sexual violence, sexual exploitation, addictions and mental health, as well as career development. I have also designed programs and curriculum, supervised programs and teams that included program evaluation and strategic planning. I began my Adoption by Choice career as a home study writer from 2006 – 2011 and returned in January 2020 as the Adoption Program Supervisor.
