Chantal Tkach, MSW, RSW
Social Worker, Slave Lake, AB
I completed 9 years of university that resulted in a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Bachelor’s degree in Social work, and more recently I graduated in 2013 with my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social work in 2013, through the University of Calgary distance education program in Edmonton. I am a registered social worker in the province of Alberta.
My experience includes years working as a behavioral consultant, teaching parenting skills, working with families at risk, and leading family meetings to support planning for children in care. I spent eight years with Children’s Service in the permanency unit where I was responsible for approving adoption families, supporting children in care who were needing permanent homes, doing courtesy work for private adoptions, option counseling, and working with families and children. It was one of my greater accomplishments in life ensuring the stability and connection of children who benefited from permanent, forever families to love and care for them. Today I work for a college teaching social work which is a rewarding position but I missed working hands on with families and children in the areas of permanency. This lead me to continue my interest in adoption and permanency, and to support this love by fulfilling a role with Adoption by Choice.
In my personal life I am a northern girl who resides in Slave Lake Alberta. My greatest love and joy comes from being ‘Nana’ to two beautiful grandsons, and I enjoy curling, golfing, fishing, and traveling with my partner in my spare time.
I look forward to working with the families and children Adoption by Choice is supporting.
